Expansion Projects

Paul Bunyan Communications became one of the first telecommunication companies in the country to build a brand new network into a previously monopoly regulated environment. It started in 1999 with construction in the Bemidji area and since that time we have built out the entire Bemidji telephone exchange, all areas within the cities of Cohasset, Grand Rapids, and LaPrairie, along with areas including Lake George, Cass Lake, and many townships near those municipalities.

Expansion Plans

2014

Trout Lake Township

Paul Bunyan Communications will be expanding its all-fiber optic communications network into the Trout Lake Township east of Grand Rapids and LaPrairie this year.

Where we expand will be based on the costs involved and level of demand for our services in each individual neighborhood/area of the township.
Service applications are now being accepted at our Grand Rapids office. More information on how to get connected will also be mailed prior to construction reaching the area.

Further expansion in the rural areas around Grand Rapids is expected in 2015.

Rural Park Rapids

Paul Bunyan Communications will continue to expand the all fiber optic network in rural Park Rapids with construction in two areas outside of city limits that can potentially reach over 270 locations.

  1. West of city of Park Rapids.  Area will be Hwy 34 north to 210th Street and includes southwest side of Portage Lake.
  2. East of the city of Park Rapids.   Area will be south of Hwy 34 as far east as 209th Avenue and as far south at 160th Street.  Will cover most of Peysenke Lake and the northern 2/3 of eastern Long Lake.

Locations included in this year’s expansion will be mailed more information prior to construction reaching the area.

We will continue surveying rural areas outside of the city of Park Rapids to determine where there is enough interest to expand our all-fiber optic network even further in 2015.

The 2015 expansion survey areas include the area northwest of Two Inlets (Boot and Mud Lake) along with the area south of city limits to Blueberry Bridge Drive and as far east as 3rd Crow Wing Lake/Island Lake.  This survey area does NOT include the City of Park Rapids or the City of Nevis.

If you did not receive a survey and would like to find out if your specific location is in our 2015 survey area, please contact our offices toll free at 888-586-3100.

Based on the survey results, specific areas of expansion will be determined in May/June, 2015.
